Well....I think so at least.I want to tell you about a woman that I heard about a couple of weeks ago. I don't know how I've waited so long. But first, let's talk about relationships.
Personally, I am infrequently lonely. This is probably impart because I'm introverted (it's okay to be shocked, but truly I am), and a loner by nature. Therefore, I don't usually feel all that bad when I'm in my own company by myself. I do, however, enjoy relationships with other people. (No man is an island and all that jazz.)
Most often, I don't choose animal friends over human relationships. Now, there are some people...okay....a lot of people that I would definitely choose my cats over.
But (here's the important/deep part so pay attention) most of those people are not already in my life. And I certainly have not been in a long term life partnership with them.
Vicki Lowing of Australia does not feel the same way.
It seems Vicki's husband, Greg, told Vicki either Johnie (the CROCODILE) goes or he goes.Vicki and Greg divorced in 2005. I don't know why this wasn't in the papers then, but it wasn't.
Big picture though: Vicki and Greg divorced over a CROCODILE that they were allowing - nay, ENCOURAGING - to live in there home.
Girlfriend's been raising the crocodile for thirteen years, and has even let it sleep in bed with her son. (The human son is 18 months older than Johnie.) She said they started having trouble as soon as Johnie waddled through the door. Apparently Greg gave up. Vicki said it was like having to choose between her son and her husband.
In my personal opinion, Vicki needs a come to Jesus moment.
It's a CROCODILE. And you chose it over your HUSBAND. I'm all for animals. I love them. And if the Happy Bill comes through, I'll be very close to rich. But there is a limit! It's a crocodile, wasn't there some sort of happy medium here? The word zoo comes to mind, but Johnie was probably to tame for a real zoo.
What about some form of wildlife rescue?
What about a bigger house?
A room dedicated to Johnie?
Counseling?
Again, and I cannot emphasize this enough, I'm not judging. But I am saying: think about this! It seems like pure madness to me. After trading vows and creating a human son, they walk away from marriage over a pet.
Vickie reasoned that a husband can learn to cook his meals, but not Johnie.

I would consider leaving my dear fiance for my pets. I've had them since before we met and if he were asking me to choose between them, I'd probably go with the ones not asking me to choose.

One of amamzing things about blogging is that it provides a record of where we were at. Last week someone in my family (my mother) and I were having an argument about a claim she made that she had never eaten my pumpkin cheesecake. I was able to go back in time and offer her photgraphic evidence that she thought it was epicurean ;)
